India is truly the curry empire, even the word ‘curry’ originated from a Tamil word that means ‘sauce’. Nowadays, curry is became a hot favourite taste among the easterners, especially the South-east Asian countries.

Curry immediately became a hit in Penang after its initial introduction, finding its rightful place as the main ingredient for cooking various dishes. People mixed curry with all sorts of food, adding splendour and style to the spicy assortment.

Most curry noodles today place emphasis on the soup, but with white curry noodles, the emphasis is on the sauce which is rich in coconut milk, making it a unique flavour of Penang. White curry noodles, a famous Penang delicacy, presents an invigorating spicy flavour, so sweet and spicy, so fragrant and hot, so unique!

In Penang, or even throughout Malaysia, it is difficult to find authentic white curry noodles. This is because curry is so versatile that the original white curry formula is almost lost, primarily due to the fact that this original formula is only passed down the generations within the same family.

The recipes for other noodles may found in Penang, but not white curry noodles! It is a small wonder that Penang white curry noodles has become an ancient treasure of the island, an absolute cultural heritage that lives among us.

Penang Green Curry

The name “GREEN” curry derives from the color of the dish, which comes from green chillies. The “SWEET” in the Thai name refers to the particular color green itself and not to the taste of the curry. As this is a Thai curry based on coconut milk and fresh green chillies, the color comes out creamy mild green or, as this color is called in Thai, “sweet green”.

Its ingredients are not exactly fixed. The curry is not necessarily sweeter than other Thai curries but, although the spiciness varies, it tends to be more pungent than the milder red curries.
